Port Book and Newsletter December 2024

Here at last is the final Port Book and Newsletter of the year, and boy have things finally gotten into the holiday swing of things at the store. It is lovely to be downtown among all the festive cheer these days, and we are working hard to make sure that we can fill all the special orders as promised and to get as many in-demand items as we can for the shelves.

Most books are not posing a problem. but a couple (Serviceberry, Wind and Truth) are hard for anybody to get ahold of right now and we are just hoping to get another shipment by Christmas/Hannukah. The holiday giving guide has helped a lot of people this year, and we have plenty of other ideas for you (see below).

Tomorrow (December 18) is the last day recommended for USPS First Class Mail or UPS Ground, after that the carriers recommend using Priority. Keep in mind, items on our site listed as "on our shelves now" can ship out immediately, while "not currently in store" will take us extra time to receive and send out.

Call us or stop by for more help.

If we don't see you soon enough to tell you in person, Happy Holidays from all of us at Port Book and News.

Jonathan Evison? We'll have a double.

It's a good time to be a Jonathan Evison fan, and we at Port Book and News are BIG Jonathan Evison fans.

Evison's most recent book, Again and Again is now available in paperback. If you haven't read this one, you will want to pick it up. Alan said "The ending is one of the best I have read in all my years of bookselling."

Evison's new book, The Heart of Winter arrives just after the new year. Preorder it now for 20% off.

Congratulations Helena!

Helena Pohl

Please join us in congratulating Helena Pohl, our bookseller extraordinaire, for receiving a James Patterson Holiday Bookstore Bonus Award!

Helena can find a book for anybody, any time. People literally line up (and sometimes change their travel plans) to get her recommendations. She is also curious, generous, and bakes amazing cookies. She helps everyone around her, on both sides of the counter, and makes it all look easy.

Oh, and she can also build a tree out of books! This award is so well deserved!

Our Favorite Reads of 2024

Here are the staff's favorite reads from this year (no matter when they were published).

Popular Gifts: World's Smallest Games

Worlds Smallest Jenga

Do you need a stocking stuffer? The "World's Smallest" series of games Super Impulse has something for you. Versions of the most popular games of all time that will fit in the palm of your hand are just too much fun.

Chess, Scrabble, Boggle, Monoply, Yahtzee, and many more. There is even a tiny version of the electronic game Simon. Look at this tiny Bananagrams, sitting adorably atop a regular-sized Bananagrams. It somehow comes with 144 tilles!

Christmas Eve Releases are Surprisingly a Thing

We are not crazy about publishers releasing books on Christmas Eve, but two titles that are highly-anticipated by their fan bases are coming out on the 24th.

The latest graphic novel adaption of the bestselling Wings of Fire series, Escaping Peril will be released on the 24th as well as the follow up to Xiran Jay Zhao's Iron Widow, Heavenly Tyrant .

For anyone looking for an amazing Christmas or Hanukkah gift, Pre Order now to reserve your copy and get 20% off!

I finallly accepted the fact that I will never get back to my original weight. I am okay with this.

After all, 6 lbs 3 oz. just isn't reasonable.
